Keep Your MCP Server Working as AI Clients Change

AI clients, SDKs and the MCP specification change every month. Codersarts monitors, updates and fixes your MCP servers, ChatGPT apps and Claude connectors for a fixed monthly fee.

Shipping an MCP server is a launch. Keeping it working is a job. AI clients change how they handle sign-in and tool results, the MCP specification moves, SDKs release breaking versions, and your own product keeps changing underneath. Codersarts MCP maintenance keeps your MCP servers, ChatGPT apps and Claude connectors healthy, secure and current for a fixed monthly fee.

What Is MCP Maintenance?

MCP maintenance is the ongoing care of a Model Context Protocol server after launch. It covers monitoring, incident response, SDK and dependency updates, specification migrations, compatibility testing with AI clients such as ChatGPT and Claude, security patches and small tool changes, so the server keeps working as clients and your product evolve.

Most teams build an MCP server as a project, then move the engineers back to the core product. A few months later, a client update breaks sign-in, a tool starts returning errors, or a new specification version lands, and nobody owns the fix. MCP maintenance gives that ownership a home.

Why MCP Servers Break After Launch

An MCP server depends on more moving parts than most APIs. Common causes of failure we plan for:

  • Client changes. ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and other clients update often and can change how they handle OAuth, tool lists, large results or interface components.

  • Specification changes. The 2026-07-28 MCP specification made the protocol stateless and changed session handling. Servers built on earlier versions keep working for a while, then need migration.

  • SDK releases. Official TypeScript and Python SDKs ship new major versions with breaking changes and security fixes.

  • Your own API changes. A renamed field or new required parameter in your product can silently break a tool.

  • Token and identity changes. Expiring signing keys, rotated secrets or a changed identity provider can lock every user out.

  • Rising agent traffic. Usage from agents is bursty; one runaway workflow can exhaust rate limits or raise costs.

Most MCP outages are not dramatic. They are quiet failures where the assistant stops choosing your tools or returns errors users never report.

What Is Included in MCP Maintenance

Monitoring and alerting

We set up uptime checks from multiple regions, error rate and latency tracking (p50, p95, p99), tool-level success rates and cost alerts. Alerts go to our on-duty engineer and, if you want, to your Slack, email or PagerDuty.

Incident response

When something breaks, we investigate, fix or roll back, and write a short incident report with cause and prevention steps. Response targets depend on your plan.

SDK, dependency and security updates

We track MCP SDK releases, dependencies and security advisories, apply updates in staging first, run tests, then release to production. Critical security patches are prioritized outside the normal update cycle.

Specification migrations

When the MCP specification changes, we plan and carry out the migration, including stateless transport changes, authentication updates and new capabilities your clients start to expect.

AI client compatibility testing

Every month, and after major client releases, we run your evaluation prompts in ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor to confirm the assistants still choose the right tools with the right arguments and that sign-in works end to end.

Tool versioning and change management

We version tools, keep a changelog, deprecate old tools with notice, and keep rollback ready for every release so a bad change never stays live for long.

Small changes and new tools

Each plan includes engineering hours for small improvements, such as a new tool, a clearer description, a new field or a performance tweak. Larger features are quoted separately.

Directory and listing upkeep

We keep your ChatGPT app and Claude connector listings accurate, handle re-review when changes require it, and update your developer docs and llms.txt.

Monthly health report

You receive a short report every month: uptime, errors, top tools, latency, incidents, updates applied, compatibility results and recommended next steps.

Signs Your MCP Server Needs Maintenance Now

  • Users say the assistant "cannot find" or "does not use" your product any more

  • Sign-in works in one AI client but fails in another

  • You are still on an MCP SDK major version that is no longer updated

  • Your server was built before the 2026-07-28 specification and has not been reviewed since

  • Nobody on your team can say when the server last had a dependency update

  • There are no alerts, so you learn about failures from customers

  • A ChatGPT app or Claude connector listing was flagged or removed after a change

A Typical Month on the Growth Plan (Illustrative)

In week one we apply dependency and SDK updates in staging and run the test suite. In week two we run the evaluation prompts in ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor and compare results with last month. In week three we ship the small changes you requested, such as a new tool or a clearer description, with a changelog entry. In week four we send the monthly health report and agree priorities for the next month. Incidents are handled whenever they happen, within the plan's response time.

Unused hours do not roll over. Extra work is billed at the plan's hourly rate or quoted as a fixed-price project. Final pricing depends on the number of servers, traffic and hosting setup.

What Is Not Included in MCP Maintenance

To keep plans predictable, a few things sit outside the monthly fee and are quoted separately:

  • New products or major features, such as a second MCP server, a new ChatGPT app interface or a large set of new tools

  • Full security audits and penetration tests, beyond the quarterly review on the Critical plan

  • Changes to your core product or API, other than small fixes needed to keep tools working

  • Cloud hosting bills, which stay in your account and are paid directly to your provider

  • Third-party outages, such as an AI client or identity provider being down, though we monitor and report them

How Onboarding Works

  1. Health check (week 1). We review the code, hosting, auth, logs and dependencies, and list any urgent risks.

  2. Access and tooling (week 1). We get access to your repository, cloud, monitoring and secrets manager, and set up alerts.

  3. Baseline tests (week 2). We build or extend an evaluation prompt set and record current results in each AI client.

  4. Runbook (week 2). We document how the server is deployed, rolled back and recovered.

  5. Steady state. Monthly updates, checks and reports begin, with incidents handled under your plan's response times.

If the health check finds critical issues, we share them before the plan starts so you can decide whether to fix them as a one-time project.

What We Need From You

  • Access to the code repository and CI pipeline

  • Access to the cloud account or hosting, with least-privilege roles

  • Test accounts for each AI client and your product

  • A technical contact for approvals and releases

  • Your change window and any blackout dates

Can You Maintain an MCP Server Someone Else Built?

Yes. Most maintenance clients come with a server built by another agency, a freelancer or an internal team. The first-week health check tells us what we are taking over, and we document everything we learn. If the server has serious security gaps, we may recommend an MCP Security Audit before the plan starts. If you do not have a server yet, start with SaaS MCP Server.

Why Codersarts for MCP Maintenance

  • Fixed monthly fee. Predictable cost with clear included hours.

  • Engineers who build MCP servers. Updates and fixes come from people who build servers, agents and ChatGPT apps every week.

  • Proactive, not only reactive. We test client compatibility and plan migrations before users notice problems.

  • Your timezone. Working hours and check-ins are agreed in your timezone, with after-hours cover on the Critical plan.

  • Global team, sensible pricing. An in-house team in India keeps monthly fees well below typical Western retainers.

  • No lock-in. Runbooks, monitoring and code stay in your accounts, and plans are month to month after the first three months.
