Rehearsed Before Cutover · Tested Rollback Plan · Near-Zero Downtime · Built in Your Cloud Account
Move Your Application Without Losing Data or Users
Your app has outgrown its hosting, sits in the wrong account or costs too much to run. We move it, with its data and integrations, to its new home using a rehearsed cutover and a tested rollback plan.
What Is Application Migration?
Application migration is the process of moving a working software application, with its code, data, configuration and integrations, from one hosting environment to another, such as a new server, a different cloud provider or a managed platform, while keeping it available to users. A good migration is planned, tested, reversible and finished with a verified cutover.
Codersarts provides application migration services for web applications, APIs, SaaS products and background services. We move apps between servers and clouds, off platforms such as Heroku, Render, Replit and Firebase, and from shared hosting to properly managed infrastructure, with a rehearsed cutover, a rollback plan and monitoring from the first minute.
We move your application, data and integrations to their new home with a rehearsed cutover and a tested rollback plan, so users notice nothing except a faster, more stable app.

Why Companies Migrate Applications
Cost. Platform pricing grows with usage; the same app on a right-sized server or cloud account can cost far less each month
Platform limits. Request timeouts, sleeping free tiers, missing background workers or no persistent disk stop the app from growing
Reliability. Shared hosting and overloaded servers cause slow pages and outages
Ownership. The app runs in a developer's personal account and needs to move into a company-owned cloud account
Compliance and data location. Customers or regulators require data to stay in a specific region
End of life. The old server or operating system no longer receives security updates
Consolidation. Several apps spread across different providers are brought together for easier management
Who Application Migration Is For
Startups leaving a platform whose bill grows faster than their revenue
Founders whose app still runs in a former developer's personal account
Businesses on ageing servers or shared hosting that no longer receive security updates
Teams consolidating several apps spread across different providers into one company cloud account
Companies that must move data into a specific region for customers or regulators
Types of Application Migration
Cloud providers describe migration strategies as the "Rs". Most small and mid-sized applications use one of the first three.
Strategy | Also called | What changes | When it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
Rehost | Lift and shift | Only the hosting; code stays the same | Fastest route off an old server or platform |
Replatform | Lift and reshape | Small changes to use managed services, such as a managed database or object storage | When a few changes bring clear gains in reliability or cost |
Refactor | Re-architect | Significant code changes for the new platform | When the current design blocks growth; usually a separate project |
Repurchase | Replace | Move to an off-the-shelf product | When a commercial tool now does the job |
Retain or retire | Keep or switch off | Nothing moves, or the app is closed | When migration brings no benefit |
We recommend the least disruptive route that solves your actual problem. In most projects that means rehosting first and improving afterwards.
Common Migration Routes We Handle
From | To | Typical reason |
|---|---|---|
Heroku, Render or Railway | Your own AWS, Google Cloud or DigitalOcean account | Lower monthly cost and full control |
Replit, Lovable or Bolt hosting | A managed cloud server or container platform | Production reliability for an AI-built app |
Shared hosting or cPanel | A managed VPS or cloud server | Performance, security and modern runtimes |
A developer's personal account | Your company's cloud account | Ownership and access control |
One cloud provider | Another cloud provider | Pricing, credits, region or consolidation |
Firebase or Supabase hosted | Self-managed PostgreSQL or another backend | Cost, data control or feature limits |
SQLite on a single server | PostgreSQL or MySQL | Concurrency, backups and growth |

Our Application Migration Process
Assessment. We map the app's components, runtimes, databases, file storage, environment variables, scheduled jobs, third-party integrations, domains and email settings. Hidden dependencies are the main cause of failed migrations, so this step is never skipped.
Target design. We choose the server or platform size, region, database setup, backups and monitoring, and agree the cost estimate with you.
Build the new environment. Infrastructure is created in your company's account, with secrets stored securely and access granted only to the people who need it.
Data migration plan. We choose between a one-time copy during a short window or continuous replication with a final sync, depending on data size and how much downtime you can accept.
Rehearsal. We migrate a copy, run the app on the new environment and test logins, payments, emails, uploads, scheduled jobs and integrations.
Cutover runbook. A written plan lists each step, who does it, how long it takes, how success is checked and when rollback starts.
Cutover. We freeze changes, sync the final data, switch DNS or traffic, and verify every critical function.
Hypercare. We watch errors, performance and jobs closely for the first days and fix anything that appears.
Decommission. Only after you confirm everything works do we help you shut down the old environment and stop its billing.
How We Keep Downtime Close to Zero
Lower DNS time-to-live a few days before cutover, so the switch spreads in minutes instead of hours
Continuous data replication for larger databases, so the final sync takes seconds
Blue-green switching, where the old and new environments run side by side and traffic moves only when the new one passes checks
Read-only mode for a short window when data must not change during the final copy
Off-peak timing agreed with you, based on when your users are least active
Rollback: Every Migration Has a Way Back
A migration plan without a rollback plan is a gamble. Before cutover, we agree clear rollback triggers, such as failed logins, payment errors, data mismatches or error rates above a set level. The old environment stays untouched and ready until the new one has proven itself. If a trigger is hit, traffic returns to the old environment, and we investigate before trying again.
The old environment is never switched off until the new one has run cleanly and you have approved the result.
Database Migration
Data is the hardest part of any migration. We plan database moves carefully:
Same engine moves, such as PostgreSQL to PostgreSQL, using native dump and restore or replication
Engine changes, such as SQLite or MySQL to PostgreSQL, with schema conversion, data type checks and application query testing
Row counts and checksums compared between old and new databases before cutover
File and media storage moved to object storage such as Amazon S3 or Cloudflare R2, with links updated
Backups taken immediately before cutover, kept until you approve the result
Migration Readiness Checklist
Before any cutover, every item below must be confirmed:
Full backup of code, database and files, with a successful test restore
All environment variables and secrets recreated in the new environment
Scheduled jobs and background workers running on the new environment
SSL certificates issued and HTTPS working
Email sending domain records, such as SPF, DKIM and DMARC, checked
Payment, authentication and webhook URLs updated with each provider
Monitoring and alerts active on the new environment
Rollback triggers and owners agreed in writing
Example Migration Timeline
This illustrative timeline is for a typical web application with one database, a background worker and a few third-party integrations.
Week | Work | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
Week 1 | Assessment, dependency map, target design and cost estimate | A written migration plan and fixed quote |
Week 2 | New environment built, data copied, rehearsal and testing | The app running on the new environment with test data checked |
Week 3 | Cutover runbook agreed, final sync, switch and verification | Users on the new environment with rollback ready |
Following days | Hypercare monitoring and fixes, then decommissioning | The old environment shut down and billing stopped |
Simple apps can move in less than a week, while apps with large databases or many integrations may need longer rehearsal.
What We Need From You
Access to the code repository, current hosting account and domain settings, granted through team roles.
Access to, or a new company-owned account with, the target cloud provider.
A list of the third-party services the app uses, such as payments, email and login providers, if you have one.
Your preferred cutover window and the people who should approve the result.
A person who can test key business flows, such as placing an order or running a report, after cutover.
Application Migration Compared With Doing It Yourself
Approach | Strengths | Risks |
|---|---|---|
Your developer migrates in spare time | Low direct cost | Rushed cutover, missed jobs or integrations, no rollback plan |
Hosting provider's migration tool | Quick for simple websites | Rarely handles databases, workers, webhooks or custom runtimes |
Codersarts application migration | Assessment, rehearsal, runbook, rollback and hypercare, with one team accountable | A fixed fee for the project |

Frequently Asked Questions
What is application migration?
Application migration is moving a working application, with its code, data, configuration and integrations, from one hosting environment to another while keeping it available to users.
How long does an application migration take?
A typical single application takes 1 to 3 weeks from assessment to cutover, depending on database size, the number of services and integrations, and how much testing is needed.
Will my application have downtime during migration?
Most applications move with near-zero downtime using replication and a fast DNS switch. If a short maintenance window is needed, we agree the time with you in advance.
How much do application migration services cost?
Codersarts application migration starts at $2,000 per application, with a fixed quote after assessment.
What happens if the migration fails?
The old environment stays ready throughout. If agreed rollback triggers are hit, traffic returns to the old environment and we investigate before trying again.
Can you migrate my app off Heroku, Render or Replit?
Yes. We move apps from Heroku, Render, Railway, Replit and similar platforms into your own cloud account, including databases, workers and scheduled jobs.
What is the difference between rehosting and replatforming?
Rehosting moves the app without changing its code. Replatforming makes small changes, such as switching to a managed database, to gain reliability or lower cost.
Do you support the app after migration?
Yes. Ongoing monitoring, maintenance and incident response are available through Managed Run, starting at $1,000 per month.
